Available in a wide variety of colours and sizes, your coloured kitchen splashbacks are a stunning and decorative part of the room. As well as protecting the walls behind your sinks and food prep areas, acrylic splashbacks provide that sparkle and glossy shine to your kitchen. So it's only natural that you'd want to keep it in top condition. Unlike the traditional tile splashbacks, acrylic is fast and easy to clean so maintaining your acrylic splashback is relatively simple.
Use an appropriate cleaning cloth
To keep that glossy appeal, its necessary to use the right cloth. Most acrylic splashback panels will not tolerate abrasive materials such as plastics or metal scourers. These types of products will scratch the surface and may even cause permanent damage. For best results use a paper towel or soft cloth to wipe away marks and stains. For a streak free finish, buffer the surface with a fresh towel.
Wipe away splashes as soon as they occur
Even though acrylic splash boards are made of resilient materials that will tolerate every day spills and splashes, it's a good idea to wipe away marks as soon as they appear. This will reduce the effort and force you will need to put in when cleaning, mitigating any permanent scratches.
Use appropriate cleaning products
Generally an all-purpose household cleaner will suffice when cleaning an acrylic splashback. You should never use harsh or abrasive cleaning products as this may cause irreversible damage to the surface. Your splashback supplier will be able to offer you further cleaning advice.
Maintain the silicone seal
Splashbacks protect the wall underneath so will need to be well sealed against water. The type of sealant used will depend on the material of the splashback itself. Acrylic is an effective material for splashback panels for kitchens as it is 100% waterproof and doesn't require grouting. However, all splashbacks will have a silicone seal around the edge to stop water permeating behind. Check the seal regularly and replace if necessary.
